Cable Knit

This is the latest thing i've been working on and I cannot wait until it's complete. I love everything cable and will hopefully make an infinity scarf out of this. It's definitely tricky trying to keep track of what row you knit but I love how it's turning out! This is just a preview but I'll take some more pictures once it's completed :)

America The Beautiful

This past semester for one of my classes we had to choose a theme and create 3 garments that were inspired around that one theme. I chose America! I just couldn't get enough of the beautiful combination of that red, white, and blue! I did a photo shoot this morning and it went so well! Here are some of my favorites.

Inspiration: Civil War

Inspiration: Lady Liberty

Inspiration : American Flag

Textile Print

For my latest project in my class I created a textile print through photoshop, exposed that print to a textile screen and then screen printed the design on fabric. I used that fabric and created a classic design which my amazing friend Jamie modeled for me!

Here are some of my favorite shots from the photoshoot

I seriously am obsessed with mustard yellow and peplums right now!

Happy Halloween!

For Halloween this year James and I were skeletons! I was super excited about this because I wanted to make it myself and so I had been planning it for awhile and it definitely took longer than I expected! I loved how they turned out and here is how my process went!

Went to Target and got 2 long sleeved plain black cotton shirts

For James I got long plain black pajama pants and black leggings for me

I bought a white fabric pen to outline the bones and white acrylic paint to fill in the bones

I bought acrylic paint since it's the cheapest kind of paint but fabric/textile paint would work out better because the acrylic paint makes the fabric stiff and easy to crack. So I outlined the the shape of the bones with the pen because it turned out not to show up on the fabric very well and then I painted in the acrylic paint to really make the white paint show up

The whole time I just pulled up pictures online to use as a reference which really helped me along the way. This is how mine turned out in the end!

This is the skeleton makeup I used as a reference to follow from Pinterest -- Skeleton Makeup

The final product! I didn't have enough time to finish the back of the costume but we're definitely keeping these to use again sometime and I can always finish them later.

Total cost of the costume :
2 shirts & 2 pants - $39.19
Paint pen - $3.99
2 bottles of acrylic paint - $5.98
Face paint - $3.98

Grand total - $53.14

Not too bad for two costumes! I love being able to see what other people come up with and what they can create!

Peter Pan Bows

I am almost finished with my Peter Pan inspired mod dress I am making for a class. I found this beautiful floral/polka dot pattern to go perfectly with my dress and I am so in love with it right now I decided to add to the dress and make bows I found on Pinterest. The full directions on how to make the bows are here -- Bow Tie Tutorial

I believe bows add that classy and girly touch to any outfit. Just add a clip or snap to a homemade bow and you can put it in your messy bun or at the collar of a dress and voila! Classy lady.

Here's how it went for me

The lovely fabric I picked out from Hobby Lobby

1st. Cut out a 9in x 4in piece of fabric and 2.5in x 1.5in

2nd. Fold piece of fabric in half and sew up 2 sides, then flip inside out, iron and sew up the 3rd side

3rd. Pinch fabric together and use hot glue to tack it down

4th. Use the smaller piece of fabric to wrap around the bow and tack down with hot glue

Here is the finished product! Can't wait to use these in my hair or add to a simple colored dress.
I had simplified directions on here just to show the process, but they are much easier to follow using the link I provided above!

My Peter Pan inspired dress that is not yet completed, but I thought someone would look adorable with this dress on and a bow in their hair to go along with it.

Sweaters and Stripes

Well it's the end of the Summer and I am definitely ready for Fall!! Probably my favorite season, mainly because of the fashion. I love sweaters and scarves and all that comfy stuff! Here's a little bit of my fall fashion.

Layering is always trendy and I'm still trying to learn how to layer clothes in a cute and fashionable way!

Top:Forever21, Pants:The Limited, Shoes:Forever21

For summer I just love to wear fun colors and I practically wear these pink pants from The Limited all the time! They are so comfy and light weight and go with so many different tops! I also think everyone should invest in bright colored pumps like these yellow ones. They are great and go great with any outfit.

Here are some fashion illustrations I have been working on for a class. I was inspired by great summer colors and bright candy. Let me know what you think! Hopefully I can construct one of these by the end of the summer and show it off!

Also here is something you can add to your summer playlist. I'm currently in love with the band Imagine Dragons and thought I would share.

Gold Buttons

So I found this skirt at a garage sale for 25 cents and thought it was cute, but then I found some gold vinatge looking buttons at Hobby Lobby and knew they would be perfect for my skirt! So I just cut off the old buttons and replaced them with these adorable fun buttons and voila! Something cheap and easy to make your outfit stand out.
